The story goes that a Greek couple immigrated to America in 1942, bringing 4 fig cuttings with them. Of the 4 cuttings, only one flourished in their North Carolina home. The home was purchased in 2000 by Denniss friend Irene, who showed her fig collecting friend this mother tree. Dennis dubbed this unknown variety Irenes Black Greek and many have since enjoyed this tasty
